Our son the potty pro!!!

Spencer is now a potty master! Since our last potty post in April Spencer had decided to rebel and not use the potty anymore so we took a potty vacation for a few weeks. My sister-in-law Suzie recommended a book: "Toilent Training in Less than a Day" by Nathan Azrin. I read it and thought it was worth a try, only I used a more positive form of discipline when Spencer had an accident and he actually enjoyed having to practice the pottying procedure. In 5 hours (from 9AM to 2PM) he went from only sitting on the toilet when I made him, to: recognizing when he needed to urinate, running to the potty wherever I set it in the house, pulling down his undies, urinating, pulling up his undies, emptying out the potty into the regular toilet, flushing, putting the potty bowl back in his potty, cleaning up any spills, and washing his hands, ALL BY HIMSELF! He even got out of bed before his nap and in the morning (without prompting) to use the potty. It has been a few days now and even with outings he has been sucessful. I never have to tell him to use the potty, I just ask if his undies are wet or dry before and after naps and meals, and praise him when he's dry. He has had very few accidents and this has been a great experience for the both of us. Hooray! Who'd have thought I'd get so excited over stinky poops in the potty?

GO Spencer! or Don't GO Spencer, it sounds like he's got it figured out.
